Where to Stay in The Hamptons

Where to Stay in The Hamptons: Boutique Hotels

The Hamptons is comprised of roughly two dozen quaint villages and hamlets that dot the eastern end of Long Island. The Hamptons stretch for 50 miles from Westhampton in the west to Montauk in the east.

Most of the best hotels in the Hamptons are clustered in the East Hampton area. This is definitely the place to base yourself if you want to be in the trendy part of town. East Hampton is not only close to some of the area’s best beaches, but the picture-perfect Main Street is lined with boozy brunch spots, popular wineries, and upscale boutiques.

If you’re in town to party or have a good time, Montauk is the place to be. It’s often touted as the “Brooklyn of The Hamptons” and is popular among younger travelers, surfers, and those looking to be seen.

Those wanting to stay in a refined and upscale part of town should look into one of the luxurious hotels in Southampton. Beach-goers will love all of the gorgeous stretches of sand in Amagansett, while families usually opt for the charming village of Sag Harbor.

But no matter where you stay in The Hamptons, you’ll find plenty of great hotels to choose from!

12 Best Boutique Hotels in The Hamptons

1. The Maidstone

Swedish hotelier Jenny Baker opened The Maidstone in 2008 and it didn’t take long for it to be regarded as one of the best boutique hotels in The Hamptons. Housed in a 150-year-old Greek Revival home, Baker has adorned every room of her inn with what she calls “Scandinavian cozy” decor. The entire inn was fully renovated in May 2017, so expect everything to be new and top-of-the-line.

The Maidstone boasts 16 rooms and three standalone cottages. Each unit is completely unique and outfitted with handcrafted luxury Hästens Swedish beds with Frette linens, curated photo art, and modern ensuites with Jonathan Baker aromatherapy products. Plus, all rooms come with coveted beach parking permits – a rarity in The Hamptons!

The hotel restaurant is open all day for everything from early morning breakfasts to late-night cocktails. They serve up a creative selection of salads, sandwiches, and locally sourced seafood dishes. This pet-friendly hotel even has a special menu for dogs so feel free to order a bowl of salmon and rice or egg and bacon for your furry friend!

The Maidstone is conveniently located a 15-minute walk from East Hampton Village and East Hampton Main Beach.

2. The Roundtree

Nested on 13 beautiful acres in Amagansett, The Roundtree recently opened its doors in June 2020. Rooms, suites, and private cottages are all housed in the property’s meticulously modernized 17th– and 18th-century buildings and farmhouse. With so many thoughtful touches, there’s a good reason The Roundtree was included on the Travel + Leisure 2021 It List of Best New Hotels!

All units boast wide plank hardwood floors, custom beds with designer linens, and European-style baths with rain showers. You’ll love the thoughtful extras like the Nespresso coffeemakers, minibars stocked with complimentary snacks, and the pillow menu. If you’re planning on staying longer-term or traveling as a family, the cottages feature living rooms with fireplaces, private gardens, and fully outfitted kitchens.

While there is no onsite restaurant, you can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast in the garden each morning. Expect a lavish spread of pain au chocolat, fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, and coffee from local favorite Jack’s Stir Brew. The hotel’s complimentary bikes make getting to one of the many nearby restaurants a breeze.

In the evenings, you can unwind in the garden. Just head over to the nearby shop and buy a bottle of rosé or DIY cocktail supplies. The friendly hotel staff will even set up a table for you. Kids will love the s’mores station, which is set up around the fire pit each evening!

3. The Quogue Club

This once-neglected 19th-century inn and farmhouse was completely revamped by a group of local Quogue families and renowned interior designer Alexa Hampton in 2012. The idea was to create a private social and dining club where locals can mingle. It now operates as a luxury boutique hotel where guests can access the exclusive private club!

Having the chance to dine at the Quogue Club is reason enough to stay at this historic boutique hotel. Executive Chef Matt Birnstill uses locally sourced meats, seafood, and ingredients to prepare addictive dishes. Expect options like lobster and sweet corn risotto, Amish chicken breast with arugula-almond pesto, and Nova Scotia halibut with chanterelles and dill soubise.

We’re not sure which is more impressive, the restaurant or the 12 rooms and two private cottages. Each space is outfitted with beach-chic decor, traditional furniture, and luxe beds with beautifully upholstered headboards. You’ll love the luxurious details including 600-count Supima bedding, Turkish cotton towels and bathrobes, and Molton Brown body products.

If you feel like exploring the area, hop on one of the hotel’s free beach cruisers and bike to the beach in just 10 minutes. If you’re all beached out, spend the day visiting the wineries in nearby North Fork or going shopping in South Fork.

One of the coolest things about Topping Rose House is that it’s home to a Jean-Georges restaurant. You can choose from delectable dishes including burrata with rhubarb compote, Maine lobster with a gruyere emulsion, or a cheddar cheeseburger with passion fruit BBQ sauce.
