The 12 Best Luxury Hotels in Phuket, Thailand

Phuket is the Goldilocks of island beach destinations. It’s got the best of Thailand in one place: miles of golden beaches, lush jungle, delicious Thai food, plus some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

Want to see authentic Thai temples and statues? Phuket’s got loads of them. Looking for a historic Thai town to explore? Phuket Old Town is lined with old Sino-Portuguese buildings. Want to haggle at night markets, get crazy at a street party, go off-roading, hiking, diving, snorkeling, or just relax and work on your tan all day long? Yep, Phuket has all of that too!

Another thing we love about Phuket is how convenient everything is. You can easily rent a car or motorbike and get around the island without any trouble. And if you don’t feel like doing that, there are plenty of taxis and tuk-tuks to take you where you need to go. The island is dotted with ATMs, convenience stores, pharmacies, and English speakers, so you’ll never find yourself in a bind.

Finally, Phuket’s 5-star paradise status means there are seriously stunning places to stay here. We’re talking luxury hotels right next to the ocean, private villas with butlers and infinity pools, and glamorous resorts with their own golf courses, celebrity chefs, and spas.

With so many choices, it can be hard to decide where to stay in Phuket. To help you out, we’ve put together a list of the coolest luxury hotels in Phuket, Thailand.

Where to Stay in Phuket

Where to Stay in Phuket, Thailand: Best Luxury Hotels

Some tourists complain about Phuket being a tourist trap, and we definitely understand that. There’s no shortage of souvenir shops, rowdy bars, and tour operators trying to get your business.

Still, that’s kind of hard to avoid in any popular Thai destination. We actually think it’s part of Phuket’s charm!

That said, where you stay in Phuket can make or break your trip, so before you go, decide what kind of experience you want to have.

Are you looking to be right in the heart of the action? You’re going to love Patong! This busy coastal town barely sleeps and is always buzzing with energy. From the famous Patong Beach to Bangla Road (Phuket’s neon-lit nightlife central), there’s no shortage of things to do here.

If you’re looking for a more relaxing vacation, we recommend staying in Kamala, Karon, or Rawai. These beachside towns are a bit more low-key than Patong but still offer plenty of restaurants, bars, and activities to keep you busy. Plus, they’re all within driving distance of Patong if you want to head there for a night out.

Now, if you want to feel like you’re on a deserted island, try Mai Khao. This long, straight beach is part of Thailand’s Sirinat National Park and is about as undeveloped as it gets compared to areas like Patong. If you’re looking to escape the crowds, this is the place to be. Phuket International Airport (HKT) is situated at nearby Mai Khao Beach, making it the perfect place to start or end your trip.

Phuket is an easy place to explore regardless of where you’re staying. Plus, with so many helpful locals and great public transportation, you can have coffee in Phuket Old Town, hike through the jungle, have dinner in Kamala, and party in Patong all in the same day if you want to!

Bask in the Thai sunshine at The Shore at Katathani, a luxurious beachfront resort in Phuket set along Kata Noi Beach. This is easily one of the best hotels in Phuket, and we love how it’s an adults-only resort. So, if you’re craving some romantic downtime with your partner or just a kids-free vacation, you’re going to love every minute here!

The rooms and suites at The Shore are absolutely stunning, with hardwood floors, private decks, and beautiful views of the Andaman Sea. The resort will spoil you with premium amenities like free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, and a minibar, and you can even upgrade to a villa with its own private infinity pool if you want to go big!

When you’re not relaxing in your room, take advantage of The Shore’s other great amenities like the tour desk (they can help you arrange all sorts of fun day trips), the yoga and aqua aerobics lessons, or the pampering Serenity Spa. The hotel also has its own restaurants serving international cuisine and delicious cocktails.

The Shore is just 20 minutes away from Patong Beach by car, so you can party the night away and then come back to your peaceful oasis when you’re ready to relax.

Island Escape by Burasari is literally an island escape! It’s located in Koh Maphrao, and you’ll need to ride a traditional long-tail boat to reach this secluded resort just off the coast of Phuket. If you’re looking for unique Phuket hotels, this might just be the place.

Once you get there, good luck leaving! You can choose among 46 private villas and 204 rooms, but if you can swing it, definitely splurge on a private villa. Each one is huge and comes with a private deck and your own infinity pool overlooking the sea.

The resort also has barbecue facilities and a picnic area if you want to spend a day cooking out in between swimming at one of its two pools (an infinity pool and a saltwater pool).

You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to dining at Island Escape by Burasari. The hotel has both Thai and Western cuisine on its menu, so you can indulge in your favorite comfort food when you’re feeling homesick. The breakfast spread is top-notch with items like cured meats, smoked salmon, cheeses, pastries, and even waffles.

When you do manage to peel yourself off your soft bed, you’ll find plenty to do in and around the resort. For an additional charge, you can join in on a tour or class about local culture, happy hour, themed dinners, bike tours, and waterfront activities like snorkeling, canoeing, and fishing.

3. Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach

Cool Hotels Phuket Thailand: Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach

The Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach is a luxury hotel that hits all the right notes. It sits on a cliff top overlooking Naithon Beach, a beautiful and isolated spot on the west coast of Phuket. The location means there are some steep walks but don’t worry because the hotel has these cute carts ready to whisk you all over the property.

We have to gush about the food at the Pullman, especially the breakfast buffet. It’s spectacular and loaded with options from different cultures and countries. Along with staples like eggs and bacon, you can find dishes like congee, dumplings, Thai curry, and even a make-your-own omelet station! And if you get hungry later at night, no problem because the hotel offers 24-hour room service.

This hotel is also super family-friendly. Right beside the float pool (which has its own bar), there’s an adjacent kids’ pool and snack bar. The kids’ club also runs fun activities for children, so you can attend a virtual meeting or just enjoy some quiet time by yourself.

As for amenities, name it, it’s here. The hotel has six on-site bars and restaurants, an outdoor tennis court, a fitness center and sauna, a business center… we could go on, but we think you get the picture.

The Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach is one of those hotels you already want to come back to before you’ve even left. And trust us, you will want to come back!

4. Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa

The Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa is a classic choice for luxury and style in Phuket. Strategically located in Karon Beach, you’re near almost every major attraction: the Karon Night Market, Big Buddha, Phuket Simon Cabaret, the Karon Temple Wat Suvarnkiri, and other beaches like Kata Beach and Kata Noi Beach.

Despite its central location, it’s a totally different world inside the resort itself. The Hilton Phuket Arcadia is nestled on 75 acres of private beachfront property. You can explore the sprawling gardens, lagoons, and waterfalls, or take a dip in one of the five outdoor pools.

Plus, with eight different dining outlets, you’ll never go hungry. And when you’re ready to call it a night, all rooms come with a private balcony and views of the ocean, gardens, or lagoon.

Kids are going to go crazy here! In addition to the kids’ club and trampoline, there’s a two-level waterslide that’ll make a splash.

The Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa is the perfect place to recharge and relax. But if you’re looking for more active pursuits, the resort can help with that, too. There’s a 24-hour fitness center, three tennis courts, and two squash courts. And when you’re ready to truly unwind, visit the Eforea Spa. With 15 private villas and a salon, you’ll leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

If you’re looking to stay in one of the best luxury hotels in Phuket, this might just be the perfect pick!

5. AKRA Collection Layan

Where to stay in Phuket Thailand: AKRA Collection Layan
Photos: AKRA Collection Layan

AKRA Collection Layan feels more like a luxury retreat than a hotel or resort. This place is tiny, with only 28 villas, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for places to stay in Phuket that offer an intimate and exclusive experience.

Every villa has a private pool and sundeck (some with amazing views of the Andaman Sea), and the property is dotted with small, quaint gardens. It’s one of the most unique places to stay in Phuket, too, since the villas are split-level. The lower level houses the living room and all the amenities like the TV, microwave, fridge, and minibar, while the upper level is where you’ll find the bedroom surrounded by blackout curtains for a restful sleep.

Within a 15-minute drive, you can find Kamala Beach and Bang Tao Beach and some pretty spectacular sites for snorkeling and diving. But if you’re looking to just stay put and relax, AKRA Collection Layan has absolutely everything you need.

6. Anantara Layan Phuket Resort

Cool Phuket Hotels: Anantara Layan Phuket Resort

This classy resort is located at the end of Layan Beach and is bordered by thick jungles at the back and golden sands at the front. When you stay here, you’re trading the noise of areas like Patong Beach for total tranquility.

The entire place looks sophisticated but distinctly Thai, with wooden seating sets, peaked roofs, and ultra-soft furnishings done in gem tones. The gardens are pretty in the morning, but they become mesmerizing at night with the tiki torches lit up.

You’re going to fall in love with the rooms at the Anantara Layan! Every little thing is designed to relax you, from the subtle cream walls to the jumbo tub with fancy bath salts just waiting for you to soak in. Special touches like fruity cocktails and petit fours greet you when you arrive and make this place feel like home.

As with all Anantara properties, there’s a world-class spa on site. This one has a beauty salon and seven treatment rooms with views of the gardens. If you book a package, you can take part in yoga and meditation sessions to help center yourself.

The food is as sensational as the resort itself! It’s so good that even non-guests come to eat at the two restaurants on-site. We have to give a shout-out to the breakfast buffet for its incredible selection. You can order eggs to your liking, choose from fresh-pressed juices, and stack your plate high with fruits, pastries, waffle lollipops, and so much more!

Easily one of the best hotels in Phuket, COMO Point Yamu is a modern and chic hotel that overlooks the beautiful Andaman Sea. Located in the east of Phuket on Cape Yamu, this luxury hotel is strategically situated so you can enjoy stunning views of both the sunrise and sunset.

The hotel has two excellent Italian and Thai restaurants, so whether you’re in the mood for pad thai or a Margherita pizza, you’re going to have your cravings satisfied! You can also request freshly caught local seafood like giant prawns and crab, then have them cook it any way you want.

When you’re not exploring the restaurants, you can lounge by one of the multiple pools overlooking the sea or take a dip in the poolside bar. And if you’re looking for even more relaxation, the hotel features treatment rooms, Thai massage alcoves, steam rooms, a spa pool, yoga classes, and a fitness center.

One of the best parts about COMO Point Yamu is the free boat rides to the exclusive COMO Beach Club. With its own infinity pool, sun loungers, and bar, you’re going to want to spend all day here!

COMO Point Yamu is also a quick drive to most Phuket attractions, so you can easily explore everything the island has to offer. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel with amazing views and great amenities, COMO Point Yamu should be at the top of your list.

8. Villa Zolitude Resort & Spa

This fancy villa resort is tucked into a jungle hillside and peeks over Chalong Bay. You’ll love the sense of privacy you have at Villa Zolitude Resort & Spa, thanks to giant trees, bamboo forests, and stone walls that surround the property.

Noise is a foreign concept here: all you’ll hear is birdsong, the swishing of trees, and the water splashing in your private pool. When night falls, lamps light up the place and turn the entire resort into a romantic dream.

The accommodations are just as lovely as the surroundings. This is villa living at its finest, and every unit has two floors, a private pool, and a huge bathtub, plus an outdoor rain shower. Amenity-wise, you’re not going to miss anything here. Watch movies on the big flat-screen TV, grab a drink or snack at the minibar, or catch up on your reading at the property’s lovely library.

One of the highlights of our stay was the floating lunch! The staff will prepare a delicious meal and serve it to you on a tray that’s tethered to a buoy in the resort’s infinity pool. The Zense Spa is also top-notch, with expert therapists and a long list of treatments to choose from.

Despite the secluded feel, Villa Zolitude is just 650 feet from Wat Chalong Temple, which is one of Phuket’s most popular landmarks. You can also ride a free shuttle to Nai Harn Beach and Central Festival Phuket Department Store if you want to explore the area.

9. Resort Trisara

Unique Hotels Phuket Thailand: Resort Trisara

The award-winning Trisara is a gem inside the gem that’s Phuket. This place is one of the coolest luxury hotels in Phuket, and even the smallest detail has been accounted for. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be treated like a celebrity.

The Trisara boasts plush pool villas with jaw-dropping sea views. You can explore that beautiful beach by swimming, kayaking, or in style on one of Trisara’s yachts. There’s also a 48-meter pool if you want to take a dip closer to home.

When you need to recharge, visit the Jara Wellness spa for a thermal therapy session or a detoxifying cleansing ritual. If you’re looking to break a sweat, there’s a small but state-of-the-art fitness center on-site.

Once you step into one of the rooms at Trisara, you’ll instantly understand why the place is so award-worthy. Expansive windows give way to panoramic views of the ocean, and the outdoor terrace is perfect for relaxing with a good book or watching the sunset. Every part of the room feels plush, from the oversized bed to the rain shower, giant bathtub, and the smart TV hidden behind a sliding wall.

The Trisara is home to the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Phuket: Pru. This Western-Asian eatery only uses ingredients from the resort’s own farm or local sources. The seafood is so fresh that you can actually taste saltwater when you slurp up the oysters!

10. The Slate

The Slate is a five-star hotel with a beautiful setting and even nicer rooms. This modern property is located on Nai Yang Beach, which is a serene spot that’s great for swimming, sunbathing, and strolling.

The rooms at The Slate are incredibly stylish with a minimalist yet luxurious vibe. Naturally, all the basic amenities are accounted for, like a TV, minibar, and coffee machine. You’ll also find some thoughtful touches like an iPad that controls the room’s lighting and music. The bathrooms are just as lovely, with walk-in showers and huge tubs that have a view of the forest or the sea.

What’s most notable about The Slate, however, is everything else. This property has its own Muay Thai boxing ring and yoga studio, and it also offers cooking classes, hosted trips to the local market, and Thai language lessons. Right beside the hotel, there’s a dove center and kitesurfing school.

All five dining options at The Slate were superb, but their seafood barbecue dinners were definitely the highlight. The catch of the day is cooked right in front of you, and you can choose to have it grilled, steamed, or even fried.

Finally, The Slate’s Nest spa is one of the coolest experiences we had in Phuket! Just as its name suggests, it’s actually suspended in the air exactly like a bird’s nest. The therapists give you an amazing massage while you feel like you’re floating on a cloud. That was pretty fun and you should absolutely try it during your stay!

11. Six Senses Yao Noi

The Six Senses Yao Noi is a top-tier hillside retreat that offers dazzling views of Phang Nga Bay. If you’re looking for cool places to stay in Phuket, every element of this property is dazzling!

The villas are ultra-luxurious with private infinity pools, sun decks, and a GEM (guest experience manager). Of course, the rooms come with all the high-tech amenities that you’d expect from a hotel of this caliber.

The property’s showpiece is its out-of-this-world infinity pool which is located on a hill. You’ll feel like you’re swimming on the edge of the world! The Six Senses also has a guests-only beach where you can relax on a comfy day bed or go snorkeling in the waters.

Another outstanding part of staying here is the sheer number of complimentary activities. You can borrow one of the free kayaks or windsurfing boards, book a free mini-massage, or join any of the daily reflexology, yoga, and qi gong workshops. The staff can also help you arrange yacht trips, diving excursions, and Muay Thai boxing training if you’re into that.

The resort’s wellness programs are some of the best in Southeast Asia. You can indulge in a three-night to seven-night package that includes daily treatments, personal training sessions, and healthy meals. And of course, the food and global menu are as exceptional as everything else here!

12. Meliá Phuket Mai Khao

Stepping into Meliá Phuket Mai Khao is like checking out of reality and into a tropical fantasy. The ultra-modern all-white Mediterranean design, complete with geometric sculptures and an infinity pool that appears to spill into the ocean, looks like it was taken out of a lifestyle magazine.

All the accommodation options are amazing, but the one-bedroom wellness villas with private pools are something else. These beautiful abodes come with built-in wellness amenities that include an ultrasonic essential oil diffuser, open-air vitamin C shower, air purifier, and even a 60-minute massage in your villa every single day! Talk about celebrity treatment.

Every bite you’ll take at the Meliá’s four restaurants will be positively gourmet. For instance, the Gaia Beach Club’s open kitchen concept serves up a fusion of Mediterranean cuisine with a Spanish touch.

The Elyxyr Cafe is all about elegant canapés and coffee, while the Pool Bar serves up expertly-crafted cocktails right by the pool. Plus, if you’re following a vegetarian or vegan diet, the resort’s chefs are only too happy to oblige!

The rest of Melia’s amenities are pretty much what you’d expect from a 5-star Phuket hotel. The spa is lovely, the gym is large and well-equipped, and the service team is brilliant and all smiles.

Do try the hotel’s signature YHI Spa’s facials, massages, and body scrubs. They’re fantastic. If you’re feeling a bit more active, the resort also offers awesome activities like horseback riding, beach yoga, and bicycle rides through the jungle.
