The people who take part spend months creating their costumes – and they’re incredible! 

One event you won’t want to miss is J’ouvert Morning at the beginning of the festival. This is when people cover themselves in chocolate, mud, or paint and dance throughout the streets to soca and calypso music. The grand finale, Road Parade, where everyone piles into the streets in a vibrant procession of music, dance, and color, is also a must-see.

2. See the View from the Top of the Pitons

For some of the best sights in St. Lucia, go hiking through the Piton Mountains. These iconic volcanic peaks rise dominantly out of the sparkling ocean and are blanketed in emerald vegetation.

Both Gros Piton and Petit Piton can be hiked, but Gros Piton is the more accessible and popular choice for hikers. Although Gros Piton is the taller of the two mountains (it’s 2,619 feet tall compared to 2,461 feet tall), it’s not as steep and challenging as Petit Piton.

You can choose between the pool-like public baths, which are free, or the historic private baths, which date back to the 1700s and cost a little extra.

6. Party at the Gros Islet Street Party

This lively celebration has been hosted close to Rodney Bay in the north of the island for more than 50 years and it seems to get better every week!

If you’re visiting in the middle of October, you’re just in time for one of the most unique St. Lucia activities – the La Marguerite Festival. This annual celebration is held throughout the island on October 17th in honor of St. Lucia’s African heritage. 

Events and activities include fantastic things like live music, poetry, storytelling, and spiritual rituals, with the goal of encouraging everyone to discover more about the local culture and heritage.
