Cagliari is the place I always recommend to people who’ve never visited Sardinia before. This part of the island is brimming with cafes, bars, restaurants, museums, shops, and beaches. It’s also where you’ll find some of the coolest hotels in Sardinia. 

Villasimius is the place to go if you plan on spending most of your time at the beach. Here you’ll find miles of golden sands and beautifully clear water that’s perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. 

Just an hour’s drive from Cagliari, Costa Rei is my top suggestion for families with little ones. This resort town boasts one lively main beach, with several other quieter options on either side. It also has a great choice of cafes and restaurants, plus some of the best hotels in Sardinia for families.

For stunning travel photos, choose Carloforte. This tiny isle is located just off the southeastern coast of the mainland and is bursting with Instagrammable streets, beautiful architecture, and beaches that are almost too perfect to be true. It’s home to just 6,000 locals and is my favorite hidden gem in all of Sardinia!

A charismatic farmhouse hidden away from the hustle and bustle in the historic center of Tuili, Il Borgo dell’Arcangelo is one of the most truly unique hotels in Sardinia. The building dates back to the 1700s and contains many original features, including bare stone walls, wooden beamed ceilings, and inner courtyards. But don’t worry – there are plenty of modern-day amenities, too, including Wi-Fi access and air-conditioning throughout.

The hotel is surrounded by countryside and there are many excellent hiking routes in the local area. I definitely recommend you sign up for the hotel’s wine-tasting experience during your stay. You’ll have the chance to try some of the best wines from the island and learn what makes them special in the hotel’s charming garden.

2. Gallicantu Stazzo Retreat

For the perfect balance of old and new, choose Gallicantu Stazzo Retreat. Without a doubt one of the coolest Sardinia hotels, this peaceful retreat offers the best of both worlds, with everything from a century-old olive tree within the estate to a lagoon-style swimming pool surrounded by plush loungers.

One of my favorite boutique hotels in Sardinia for a beachside getaway, Cala Cuncheddi is located so close to the sea that you’ll fall asleep to the sound of the waves every night. The beach in front of the hotel is exclusively for guests, so it’s never crowded. If you’d rather keep off the sand, there’s a beautiful pool that overlooks the ocean where you can take a dip before treating yourself to your favorite cocktail.

There’s a superb indoor spa with a small heated pool and sensory showers, but the massages are the highlight. There are 40 different options to choose from and you can enjoy them outdoors by the ocean!

4. Petra Segreta Resort & Spa

Undoubtedly one of the best 5-star hotels in Sardinia, Petra Segreta Resort & Spa has it all. Boasting a wonderfully remote location, a Michelin-starred restaurant, an excellent Balinese-style spa, a chic swimming pool, and gorgeous gardens that beg you to explore, you never have to leave this hotel if you don’t want to.

If you’re celebrating a special occasion, I absolutely recommend you splash out on the Petra Signature Pool Suite. If you can tear yourself away from the stunning coastline, you’ll find there are plenty more things to explore within the resort. A sophisticated spa, steam cave, luxury massage service, pool with poolside bar, and gourmet al fresco restaurant all await you.

7Pines Resort is another one of the top luxury hotels in Sardinia that has it all. Take a look around and you’ll discover three unique restaurants, six distinct bars, an elegant beach club, and two stunning pools. If you’re traveling with little ones, you can take advantage of the kids’ club while enjoying the spa, having a game of tennis, or even chartering a yacht.

For a romantic getaway, I suggest booking one of the suites in the adults-only Laguna part of the resort. You’ll enjoy direct pool access, as well as luxurious extras like outdoor showers and personal sun loungers around the pool.
